SpaceX to install glass observation dome on Crew Dragon for space tourists

Crew Dragon is a manned spacecraft that is designed to transport the crew to the International Space Station, and then from there to Earth. In 2021, SpaceX plans to send four civilian astronauts into orbit as part of the Inspiration4 mission, using Crew Dragon for this.

The glass dome will replace the docking station with the International Space Station since no docking with the ISS is required. It is noted that it looks like the famous dome onboard the ISS, but on the Crew Dragon, the dome is solid glass without any support structures that interfere with the view.

The transparent hemisphere will allow space tourists to take turns admiring space and the Earth from an altitude of about 540 km, which is 120 km above the station’s orbit.

Elon Musk noted:

Perhaps it is in this glass dome that you will feel the most that you are in space. ”
