AMD Epyc 9684X is one of the best processors we’ve tested in 19 years

They are much better than the competition

AMD has finally started shipping Epyc Bergamo and Genoa-X processors, and Phoronix has already published the first results of testing these new products.

On average, based on many tests, it turns out that Genoa-X is ahead of all CPUs. More specifically, the flagship 96-core Epyc 9684X with more than 1 GB of L3 cache.

The 128-core Epyc 9754 of the Bergamo line on Zen 4C cores is noticeably behind. At the same time, this CPU lags behind the usual 96-core Epyc 9654 without 3D V-Cache memory quite a bit.

Intel processors, as we see, are not just lagging behind: these are solutions of a completely different class or a different generation. The best of them – Xeon Max 9480 with 56 cores and Xeon Platinum 8490H with 60 cores – are very far behind AMD’s top new products. These CPUs can only compete with the previous generation in the face of the Epyc 7773X. Yes, Intel processors have fewer cores, but this is not what customers care about, but the ratio of price, performance and energy efficiency.

As for the latter, as you can see, AMD’s new products also perform well here. In absolute terms, they can consume about the same amount as an Intel CPU, but offer much more performance.

As a result, the authors of the review say that the Epyc 9684X is one of the best processors that Phoronix has reviewed over the past 19 years.
