They support PCIe 4.0 and NVMe 1.4
Silicon Motion recently introduced a family of PCIe 4.0 and NVMe 1.4 controllers for client SSDs. It includes the SM2264 controller for high-performance models, the SM2267 controller for mid-range SSDs, and the SM2267XT controller for low-cost DRAM-free client SSDs.
New Silicon Motion Controllers for Client SSDs Deliver Up to 7400 MB / s Read Speed
These controllers were designed from the ground up with PCIe Gen4 in mind, Silicon Motion said, so they include hardware features that deliver “true Gen4 performance with low power consumption.” In addition, enhanced error correction and data path protection are noted. Ten of the world’s leading manufacturers are said to have already selected the new Silicon Motion controllers for their drives that use 3D TLC NAND and QLC NAND flash memory.
All three models have four PCIe Gen 4 lanes. The SM2264 and SM2267 support eight NAND lanes, while the SM2267XT supports four. The SM2264 claims sequential read speeds up to 7400 MB / s and sequential write speeds up to 6800 MB / s. The performance on operations with random access reaches 1,000,000 IOPS in any mode. This controller is manufactured in 12nm standards.
For others, the controllers are manufactured at 28 nm and provide sequential read speeds up to 3900 MB / s and sequential write speeds up to 3500 MB / s. The random access performance reaches 500,000 IOPS in any mode (200,000 IOPS in the case of the SM2267XT in read mode without HMB).
