All Hyundai, KIA and Genesis vehicles to be powered by NVIDIA processors from 2022

It is a rare major automaker that is not caught up in NVIDIA’s attention these days. Unfortunately, as representatives of the company have repeatedly noted, while the main income in the automotive sector is brought to it by components for on-board entertainment systems and not the autopilot. Judging by the new deal with Hyundai, this state of affairs suits NVIDIA.

For the share of “autopilot” revenues of NVIDIA to exceed “multimedia”, you need to wait another couple of years, at least. Even so, the company is not going to abandon contracts involving the supply of production vehicles with components for infotainment systems that are not related to control automation.

Hyundai Motor Group announced this week that from 2022 all Hyundai, KIA, and Genesis vehicles will be equipped with infotainment systems based on NVIDIA components from the DRIVE platform. In other words, we have the right to expect that even on the budget models of Korean brands it will be possible to find a multimedia system with an NVIDIA processor. The two companies have been cooperating since 2015, with the most advanced onboard systems based on NVIDIA components already going to the Genesis GV80 and G80 models, presented last year. In a couple of years, NVIDIA processors will be registered in all car models produced by the Korean auto giant. Hyundai Motor Group now produces over seven million vehicles annually.

Hyundai’s new generation multimedia systems will receive updated software functions with support for connecting to specialized information resources and artificial intelligence elements. We can assume that voice input and gesture control will become a common part of the interface. The developers will also take care of safety – through the camera, the on-board computer will monitor the posture and behavior of the driver to prevent accidents caused by loss of consciousness or the consequences of overwork.

NVIDIA already has partnerships with many established carmakers such as Volvo Cars, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota. Now the most popular Korean brands are among them. By the way, the Korean specialists plan to develop the operating system for their onboard systems independently. Like smartphones, car multimedia systems will regularly update software “over the air”.
