BMW iX electric crossover unveiled with over 600 km range, fast charging and fresh design
The BMW Vision iNEXT concept, shown back in September 2018, has become a reality: the BMW iX electric crossover, created on its basis, is presented, which will begin mass production next year.
The car, as noted, has incorporated all the latest developments of the concern in the field of design, electrification, autonomous and connected driving. The heart of the machine is the fifth generation eDrive platform, which combines two electric motors, power electronics, a charging system, and a high-voltage battery. It is important to note that the BMW iX model was originally designed for electric propulsion, which allowed rethinking the interior space and the process of interaction between the car and the person.
The maximum power of the power plant will exceed 370 kW or 500 horsepower. This will allow a large crossover, comparable in length and width to a BMW X5, to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 5 seconds.
With an energy content exceeding 100 kWh, the latest generation high-voltage battery provides the vehicle with a range of over 600 km in the WLTP cycle. The new 200 kW DC fast charging technology will recharge energy from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes. It only takes 10 minutes to increase the vehicle’s range by more than 120 kilometers.
The exterior of the car is a new vision of the proportions of BMW’s large crossover. The minimal use of broken lines and large flat surfaces, as conceived by the designers, should create a feeling of confidence. The traditional grille has given way to a special panel that integrates cameras, radars, and other sensors. Due to the polyurethane coating, small scratches on the panel can disappear by themselves – within 24 hours at room temperature and in five minutes with a warm air supply.
In the interior, the complete absence of a central tunnel catches the eye, which creates the feeling of a large space. The number of monitors and controls in the cabin has been minimized: the BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch information display with a 14.9-inch control display. A projection screen BMW Head-Up Display is provided.
The car supports 5G mobile communications, and its powerful electronic brain can process twice as much data as in other BMW models. Of course, the most advanced security and autonomous control systems have been implemented.
The basic version of the crossover will be equipped with an audio system with 12 speakers and a 205-watt amplifier. A 655W Harman / Kardon Surround Sound System with 18 speakers and a Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound System with 30 1615W speakers are available as options.
