Qualcomm’s market share falls, while MediaTek’s sales rise
A few days ago, research company Counterpoint Research published an analytical report on the market for SoC for mobile phones in the second quarter of this year.
A couple of years ago it was impossible to believe in it. MediaTek is about to overtake Qualcomm in the mobile chip market
If we evaluate sales in the global market, then the share of Qualcomm in the second quarter of this year was 29%. The gap between Qualcomm and MediaTek is very small, with MediaTek holding 26% of the market. It is worth noting that a year ago Qualcomm and MediaTek’s market shares were 33% and 24%, respectively. A couple of years ago, no one could have imagined a hypothetical situation in which MediaTek would overtake Qualcomm in the mobile chip market.
However, this may happen in the very near future, as Qualcomm’s market share falls and MediaTek’s sales rise. Third place went to Huawei HiSilicon with a result of 16%, while a year earlier the company owned 12% of the market.
Samsung and Apple each own 13% of the mobile SoC market.
If we evaluate the Chinese market separately, more than 40% of the market belongs to. This is almost the same as Qualcomm and MediaTek combined. But in other markets, the share of Huawei HiSilicon is negligible.
It is also worth noting that after September 15, when new US sanctions came into force, the supply of high-performance Huawei Kirin chips will be sharply reduced.
