A dream come true: the modder showed what the Last of Us Part II would look like with Joel in the title role
Modeler Brian Fantana, better known under the pseudonym smasher428, posted a series of videos on The Last of Us Part II starring Joel on his YouTube channel. There are spoilers in the material.

Recall that in The Last of Us Part II, the smuggler Joel is given much less screen time than in the first part – the hero is given control only in the introduction, after which other characters appear on the stage.
Fantana, apparently, did not like this since, as part of his initiative, the enthusiast replaced the main character of The Last of Us Part II Ellie with Joel. Only the character model has changed: the animation and sound are left from the girl.
Despite some femininity of movements, in the framework of battles, Joel, the protagonist, looks quite organic in The Last of Us Part II: the opposite effect can be observed in a peaceful scene using a guitar.
In the comments to one of the videos, the author of the modification admitted that he could not make the combat system work in melee when playing for “Ellie” and had not yet tried to put Joel in place of Abby – another controlled character in The Last of Us Part II.
Ultimately, smasher428 plans to swap Joel and Abby in that very golf club scene (be careful, there are serious spoilers on the link ), but so far, apparently, far from it.
The Last of Us Part II was released in June 2020 exclusively on PS4. Smasher428 has been able to make changes to the game that was not intended by the developer’s thanks to modifying the console itself.
