A major update has been released for Dead Cells – it has been reworked the mechanics of ailments

Motion Twin has announced a major update at number 21 for the roguelike action platformer Dead Cells. The patch added enemies, weapons, and more to the game. In addition, the studio has clarified the timing of the release of the paid add-on Fatal Falls.

The community’s most requested weapon is now in the game – the katana allows you to combine a standard strike with an instant lunge (you can dress in a ninja costume for authenticity). The update also includes Christmas outfits: one of them turns the hero into Santa Claus, the other into a snowman.

Also among the innovations are five new mutations and the hidden knowledge room of the King’s Hand. There you can get acquainted with the background of one of the bosses in the game.

In addition to the above, Motion Twin reworked some of the UI elements and the colour separation of weapons as they lost coherence with the playstyle.

The ailment mechanic was also improved based on feedback from users who took part in the alpha and beta testing: the scale now fills up over time (and not as a result of hits on the hero), as the ailment progresses, enemies become stronger and begin to appear near the player (and turn into elite). Killing opponents will slow down the accumulation of malaise, and as soon as 10% of the enemies remain alive at the level, the scale will stop gaining altogether.

Finally, Motion Twin revealed that the release of a paid add-on to Dead Cells called Fatal Falls is just over a month away. No release date has been announced yet, but the addon is announced on Steam for the first quarter of 2021.
