Stepping Up to the Plate: Mohammed Asseri Takes Over as Interim CEO

The press release issued by the RSFF confirms that Mohammed Asseri, a former board member, will assume the role of acting CEO during this period of transition. Asseri’s experience and familiarity with the foundation’s mission will ensure continuity as the search for a permanent successor to Al Turki gets underway.

Celebrating Success at Cannes: A Watershed Moment for Saudi Cinema

The news of Al Turki’s transition coincides with the recent Cannes Film Festival, where the RSFF enjoyed a landmark achievement. Four films supported by the organization – including Tawfik Alzaidi’s “Norah” – were selected for the festival. “Norah,” which had its world premiere at the inaugural RSIFF in December 2021, made history as the first Saudi film ever chosen for the prestigious Cannes Official Selection. This achievement underscores the impact of the RSFF in fostering and promoting Saudi Arabian cinema on a global stage.

A Legacy of Support: Empowering Films Across the Region

Since its establishment, the RSFF has actively supported and empowered filmmakers by providing financial and creative assistance to over 250 projects. These projects originate from not only Saudi Arabia but also the broader Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This commitment to regional diversity has fostered a vibrant cinematic landscape and nurtured emerging voices.
