The work was demonstrated in the MTS network using smartphones Oppo Reno 4 Pro and Nokia 8.3 5G
The operator MTS has deployed a pilot 5G 5G communication zone on the existing commercial 4G network in Ufa. This was reported by the operator’s press service.
A pilot 5G zone was launched in Ufa on LTE frequencies
The pilot zone is based on the technology of dynamic reallocation of the frequency resource between LTE and 5G NR networks using commercial 5G smartphones.
As the operator notes, the new technology will make it possible to quickly and at low cost deploy wide coverage in the 5G standard on the existing LTE infrastructure.
The capabilities of the technology of dynamic reallocation of the frequency resource were demonstrated in Ufa at several commercial base stations of MTS in the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands using the Ericsson Spectrum Sharing solution based on the existing Ericsson Radio System equipment and commercial smartphones with 5G support – Oppo Reno 4 Pro and Nokia 8.3 5G based on SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G with Snapdragon X52 5G modem. These smartphones will soon be available for sale in MTS communication stores. Vice President for Technology of MTS Viktor Belov explained:
At the beginning of this year, we tested the technology of dynamic spectrum reallocation in our office in Ufa, and the current tests on an existing network cluster using commercial 5G smartphones confirmed the operability of the chosen solution in real conditions and improved parameters in terms of reducing response and expanding coverage. We expect that the tests carried out will speed up the decision making in Russia on the technical neutrality of the LTE range, which will allow launching user services on the first fragments of the 5G network using the existing 4G frequencies. “
