HDD is only suitable for 720p

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will no longer be a PlayStation 5 exclusive on July 26 and will be released on PC. When this game first appeared, the developers said that it became possible in its form only thanks to the console’s fast SSD. Now, the system requirements of the game on a PC show that you can get by with the HDD, but only in one of the modes.

The minimum requirements indicate an HDD, although the developers still advise using an SSD. The problem is that these are the requirements for the mode at a resolution of only 720p with the minimum graphics quality settings. All other modes require a solid state drive.

A real “nextgen” from the PlayStation 5 to the PC is possible almost exclusively on the SSD.

But even at 720p, it would be impossible to use the HDD if not for DirectStorage 1.2. This game will be the first to support this technology, which allows you to use decompression on the GPU and bypass the HDD at least in some mode.

Returning to the requirements, even at 720p and minimum settings, you need a video card like a Radeon RX 470 or GeForce GTX 960. For Full HD at medium settings, you will need an RTX 2060 or RX 5700, that is, the game is very demanding.

Playing 1440p at 60fps or 4K at 30fps at high settings will require an RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6800. The same mode but with ray tracing already includes an RTX 3070 Ti or RX 6800 XT, but for 4K at 60fps with ray tracing requires a PC with an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX. In addition, in this mode, you also allegedly need 32 GB of RAM.
