The company has already received a patent
To date, there is only one serial smartphone with a sub-screen front camera – ZTE Axon 20 5G – and its implementation at this stage leaves much to be desired.
A tiny moving secondary screen inside the smartphone. Samsung has come up with a very unusual front-facing camera solution
It is not yet clear when manufacturers will be able to improve this technology, but at least Samsung already has a patent that allows it to replace the current implementation with a new one. In this case, to understand Samsung’s idea, it is easier to look at images and animations.
So, the smartphone display near the front camera has a transparent area. When the camera is active, it just works fine, but when it is inactive, an additional tiny display becomes in place behind the transparent area through a special mechanism, which can be fully used.
Various useful information can be separately displayed on this screen, at the same time diversifying the shell of the smartphone. The patent also states that the second screen can be controlled with a stylus.
As a result, Samsung came up with a very unusual idea, but it requires the introduction of an additional mechanism inside the smartphone, and even in a not very convenient and familiar place. Whether this patent will ever be embodied in a serial product is still unknown.
