After the discontinuation of Super Mario 3D All-Stars from production on eBay began to put up the collection for sale at exorbitant prices
The Gamer portal journalists drew attention to the unpleasant but quite expected situation around Super Mario 3D All-Stars for Nintendo Switch – the cost of copies of the collection on the secondary market has grown to tens of thousands of dollars.
As a reminder, Super Mario 3D All-Stars was released in celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Super Mario series, in connection with which Nintendo decided to stop selling the collection after March 31 of this year.
Particularly adventurous players took advantage of Super Mario 3D All-Stars’s limited circulation even before release and began reselling pre-orders at inflated prices. Then, however, it was about amounts only up to $ 350.
After removing Super Mario 3D All-Stars from production, sellers grew bolder and increased the value of their lots on eBay to indecent heights. Price dispersion is greater than ever – from $ 50 – 60 to the fabulous $ 50,000.
“Out of print. This copy has absorbed the energy of one of the purest and best gamers who have ever set foot on this planet, ”reads the description of the $ 45,000 physical copy of Super Mario 3D All-Stars.
Previously, the Vice portal, citing an unnamed developer, reported that Nintendo decided to limit Super Mario 3D All-Stars’ circulation based on data on not too impressive sales of remasters in general.
It looks like the tactic worked: by December 31, 2020 (that is, three and a half months on the market), the total sales of Super Mario 3D All-Stars in retail and digital format exceeded 8.32 million copies.
