AirAsia Connects Kota Kinabalu and Seoul with New Daily Flight Service

AirAsia Malaysia, a leading low-cost carrier, commemorates another significant milestone for its second-largest Malaysian hub, Kota Kinabalu, with the successful launch of its inaugural flight to Seoul, South Korea. The flight, boasting a 100% passenger load factor, marks a new chapter in connecting these vibrant destinations and fostering cultural exchange.

Direct Connection, Enhanced Accessibility

Commencing operations on March 4th, 2024, and operating daily, this new route signifies AirAsia’s continued expansion in Sabah. With a total of 18 routes and 282 weekly flights to and from Kota Kinabalu, AirAsia strengthens its presence in the region, offering convenient and affordable travel options.

This direct flight streamlines travel between Kota Kinabalu and Seoul, making it easier for Sabahans to explore the rich cultural tapestry of Seoul. Passengers can experience the grandeur of Gyeongbokgung Palace and the tranquility of Cheonggyecheon Stream, marvel at iconic landmarks like Lotte World Tower and the Seoul Sky Observatory, and embark on a culinary adventure at bustling markets like Mangwon Market.

A Festive Inauguration

The inaugural flight was marked by a vibrant send-off ceremony, co-hosted by AirAsia and the Korea Tourism Organisation. Guests onboard the flight enjoyed a lively celebration featuring mascot appearances and exciting merchandise giveaways, making it a memorable start to their Korean adventure.

Strengthening Ties, Boosting Economies

Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the new route: “We are thrilled to celebrate this new route with a full passenger load, indicating a promising future for this connection. With approximately 150,000 arrivals from South Korea to Sabah in 2023, we anticipate welcoming even more travelers to Sabah this year.”

He further emphasized, “The introduction of this route not only reinforces Kota Kinabalu’s position as a dynamic aviation base, boasting nine domestic and nine international destinations but also strengthens the cultural and economic ties between South Korea and Sabah. This expansion coincides with South Korea consistently ranking among the top three market sources for tourism in Sabah, highlighting the potential for mutual benefits for both regions.”
