The automaker plans to completely switch to electricity by 2027
Italian automaker Alfa Romeo is developing an all-electric version of its Giulia four-door sedan. In an interview with Auto Express, Jean-Philippe Imparato, the company’s CEO, said that Alfa Romeo will debut an electric car sometime in 2024. In addition, he announced that the car will be built on the STLA Large platform, created by the parent company Stellantis.
The conglomerate announced the platform this summer. Then it was announced that it would allow electric vehicles to accelerate to 100 km / h in just two seconds and travel up to 800 km without recharging. Dodge, another Stellantis-sponsored automaker, will use the platform in an all-electric muscle car due to be unveiled in 2024. Alfa Romeo may also offer a Giulia Quadrifoglio variant, but Imparato said that would depend on whether he can get the kind of performance that the name associates with.
The release of Guilia is just the beginning.
“The first all-electric car will appear in 2024, the big launch is expected in 2025, 2026, and in 2027 we will see that Alfa Romeo only produces fully battery electric vehicles. This is confirmed and funded, ”said Imparato.
With her hips, or better: with her (at that time still quite angular) rear, the Giulia wobbled more than five decades ago. Then the Milanese sent their first sedan with the romantic name onto the streets with their hearts on their noses. The youngest Giulia, on the other hand, is only one year old. And still – or precisely because of it – already shakes his buttocks vigorously. On purpose, of course.
Because even if the new Giulia was the first to celebrate Alfa Romeo’s return to rear-wheel drive: there is no skidding (with a reasonably prudent driving style). This is not only ensured by the standard lane departure warning system and the standard collision warning system with an emergency braking function. This is primarily ensured by the driving dynamics control with the letters d (for dynamic), n (for natural) and a (for advanced efficiency) on the rotary knob. And also the optional, active damper control (Active Suspension), which cushions the body sometimes harder, sometimes softer.
