All GIFs will be removed: the popular Gfycat GIF service stops working

The Gfycat website says:

The Gfycat service is shutting down. Please save or delete your Gfycat content by visiting https://www.gfycat.com and logging into your account. After September 1, 2023, all Gfycat content and data will be removed from gfycat.com.

Gfycat was founded in 2013 in Canada and was one of the first services to offer easy creation of GIF animations from videos. It was registered in the US in 2015.

The news of Gfycat’s imminent demise came as no surprise to those who have tried to use the site in recent months. In May, it became known that the parent company, Snap, allowed Gfycat’s security certificates to expire. As a result, the platform was inaccessible to most Internet users for several days. However, even before this crash, there were questions about whether anyone else was running Gfycat. There are numerous complaints on the web about failed downloads and an unresponsive support team.
