AI can eventually take over the main work
AMD believes that artificial intelligence can not only help with the design of new chips, but also take on the main work.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said that AMD has already started using AI in semiconductor design, testing and validation and plans to expand the use of generative AI in chip design applications.
AMD and others talk about the importance of AI in the development of new chips
The company is now actively exploring ways to combine AI technology with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools to streamline complex tasks and minimize manual intervention in chip design.
Actually, this is far from being done only by AMD. For example, Synopsys has already invested heavily in research into AI tools, and recently launched Synopsys.ai, the industry’s first end-to-end AI-based EDA solution. It allows developers to use AI at every stage of chip development, from system architecture and design to manufacturing.
How much AI will change the industry of processors, GPUs and other chips is still anyone’s guess, but we will see some first products resulting from the active use of AI in the coming years.
