An open world may appear in the next part of Nioh

Nioh 2 director and producer Fumihiko Yasuda spoke to Weekly Famitsu about Dark Souls’ impact on the series and shared his thoughts on a potential third installment.

According to Yasuda, the original Nioh was largely inspired by From Software’s “Dark Souls”: borrowings from competitors’ franchises were already visible to the naked eye.

Dark Souls has an open world, and in the first Nioh, the developers were going to make a similar structure but subsequently divided the game’s passage into story and side missions.

Simultaneously, the open-world may still appear in Nioh if Team Ninja takes on the third part of the series. However, at this stage, all this is still only far from the implementation of Yasuda’s ideas.

We will remind, literally at the end of December 2020, the same Yasuda said that for the Nioh franchise, “it is time to take a break,” and Team Ninja will leave it alone – at least for the foreseeable future.

In an interview with Weekly Famitsu, Yasuda once again confirmed that Nioh 2 would be the last for some time and also recalled his idea to unfold the events of the conditional Nioh 3 within the framework of the Chinese era of the Three Kingdoms.

Team Ninja is currently preparing Nioh to expand its platform geography. Tomorrow, February 5, the Nioh Collection will be released on PS5 and Nioh 2 Complete Edition on PC (Steam).
