Analysts predict Huawei smartphone shipments will quadruple in 2021. But the collapse will begin already in this

The coronavirus pandemic has had a significant impact on the smartphone market in 2020. In the second quarter, shipments of these devices decreased by 20%. However, research firm Strategy Analytics claims in its latest report that the level of smartphone shipments in annual terms will be lower than last year by only 11 percent.

The total number of smartphones shipped is expected to reach 1.26 billion by the end of the year. It is worth noting that the company had previously estimated that smartphone shipments would fall 15.6 percent this year from last year. Strategy Analytics reports that the revision of its forecasts is driven by the stronger-than-expected recovery in the US, European and Indian markets. It is also assumed that the dynamics of smartphone sales will begin to match the trends of 2019 only in 2022.

The report also contains information on the market share of OEMs. Although Samsung has been hit hardest this year, it remains the market leader. The company sold 21% of the total number of smartphones sold. Apple is expected to come in second place by the end of the year with a 15.3% share, shipping 192 million devices. Huawei will hold third place. However, next year, according to forecasts, the company’s affairs will deteriorate sharply. Due to problems with the purchase of chips for its devices, the projected market share of the company in 2021 will be 4.3%. It is assumed that this situation will play into the hands of Samsung and Apple, which will further strengthen their position in the market.

The next year is also expected to be good for Chinese manufacturers such as OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi. It is assumed that they will also be able to “bite off the pie” of Huawei, especially in the lower and middle price ranges.
