Analysts predict iPhone 12 better sales than its predecessors

Analysts from Digitimes Research expect global shipments of next-generation Apple iPhones (tentatively referred to as the iPhone 12 family) to reach 63 million to 68 million in the second half of 2020. That’s five million less than a year earlier for the iPhone 11 lineup.

The forecast is based on the fact that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the timing of mass production and the official launch of the new iPhone series, according to analysts, is four to six weeks behind the original charts. However, the expected amount of additional unemployment benefits to be paid by the US government could boost the actual iPhone 12 sales by as much as 10 million units in the second half of 2020.

Also, analysts predict that if the Chinese multipurpose WeChat app is no longer available in the App Store in China or is pre-installed on new devices, Apple smartphone shipments in 2020 will be nearly 10% below the original estimate of 190 million units. As a reminder, WeChat is used for messaging, viewing social networks, and making mobile payments.

In addition to adding a dark blue color scheme to variants of the iPhone family, Apple will also make a number of technical updates for new smartphones, including camera modules, displays, and communication modules. All new iPhones, in all fairness, will feature face ID and 5G millimeter-wave technology, the flagship iPhone 12 will also feature a ToF camera, and the wide-angle rear camera will have OIS.
