Officials tracked Andre Longmore, 40, after obtaining four murder warrants against him in connection with Saturday’s shooting in Hampton, south of Atlanta

Officials announced on Sunday that a manhunt for a suspect accused of killing four neighbors in the Atlanta suburb of Hampton, Georgia, has come to an end with the suspect’s death.

Henry County Sheriff Reginald B. Scandrett stated during a news conference that “the monster is dead” and that the entire state of Georgia can find some relief following the suspect’s neutralization. Law enforcement successfully tracked the suspect, Andre Longmore, to an area near the border of Henry and Clayton counties, located approximately 20 miles south of Atlanta.

According to Scandrett, officers engaged in gunfire with the suspect twice before ultimately neutralizing him, resulting in his death. Authorities had been searching for Longmore, who was believed to be driving a GMC Acadia SUV. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Sunday based on four murder charges.

The victims of the shooting were identified as Scott Levitt (67), Shirley Levitt (66), Steve Blizzard (65), and Ronald Jeffers (66), all residents of Dogwood Lakes Drive and Dogwood Ridge. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, and Longmore was also a resident of the Dogwood Lakes Drive community. The stolen Acadia belonged to Blizzard.

Hampton Police Chief James Turner expressed his city’s grief over the tragic incident and mentioned that Hampton is typically a safe community with few incidents of this nature. The last reported homicide in the city occurred in 2018.

Sheriff Scandrett mentioned that a few law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the initial incident. The most severe injury was suffered by an officer who was shot in the back, although he was conscious, breathing, and expected to survive. Another officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating the killing spree and law enforcement’s response to the incident.
