Android 12 Developer Preview 2 Released with Better Notification Privacy and Rounded Corners Support

Google today released its second pre-release build of Android 12 to developers. It’s worth noting that this is not even a beta version yet. Both existing Android 12 builds are focused exclusively on developers, with the custom beta only due in May.

The fresh assembly contains a lot of innovations. For example, it has improved security controls for notifications on the lock screen. Developers can customize notifications to require authentication or some other action to view them. In the fresh assembly, there is also more opportunity for displaying content over windows of active applications.

Android 12 DP 2 also boasts a host of new UI tools, such as support for rounded screen corners. Since many modern smartphones have rounded display corners, Google has introduced new APIs that allow you to request information about the shape of the corners so that the application can compensate for them.

The new build also brings improved Picture-in-Picture mode and new APIs that expand the interaction with related devices such as smartwatches and fitness trackers. A new build of Android 12 is available for developers using Google Pixel 3 or newer smartphones.
