Apex Legends Cross-Platform Beta Starts October 6
Respawn Entertainment has announced that Apex Legends will receive its highly anticipated cross-platform mode. The beta test of the new feature will begin on October 6th with a new limited-time in-game event “Refit”, which runs until October 20.
Cross-platform was first announced back in June and will support PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (on Origin). This means that all three groups of players will be able to fight side by side or against each other for the first time since the launch of Apex Legends in February 2019. However, universal progress across platforms will not yet be supported.
“Since the launch of Apex Legends, the cross-platform play has been one of the most requested features from the community: people want to be able to play with their friends on other platforms. During beta testing, players will have full access to cross-platform features while we collect data, roll out the innovation to a large audience and, most importantly, listen to fan feedback, ”said Game Director Chad Grenier.
According to Respawn, cross-platform play will be enabled by default, but so that console players are grouped together. If the owner of the set-top box wants to team up with a friend on a PC, he will be transferred to the PC servers. By the way, Steam support will be added before the end of the year. Respawn strongly recommends not disabling cross-platform play to reduce queuing times.
By the way, Apex Legends should appear on Nintendo Switch in the fall, but it is not yet known whether Respawn will implement cross-platform mode on this platform as well.
The aforementioned “Refit” collectible in-game event will offer an all-new temporary Hotbed of Hazard mode, where players’ health will be restored in large hotbed zones. This will fundamentally change the usual movement around the map. The event will also add a relic for Caustic and various cosmetics that will be available for a limited time.
