Apple adds feature in iOS 14.5 to prevent tracking by AirTag trackers that are not out yet

Experts from the reputable publication 9to5Mac discovered an interesting new feature while examining the third beta version of iOS 14.5. It’s called the Item Safety Feature and helps prevent the user from being followed by Hidden Object trackers such as the as-yet-unannounced AirTag.

It is reported that when a new feature is activated on an iPhone or iPad, the device will be able to detect that someone has placed a tracker next to the user. After that, the iPhone will ask if the user agrees to have the tracker located next to him transmit location information to the owner. The tooltip for the function informs that when it is deactivated, the iPhone will no longer notify the user that the tracker linked to another person’s account is moving along with him. It’s also worth noting that the Find My app, included with iOS 14.5 Beta 3, now contains an Items section, which will likely display AirTag trackers tied to Apple ID.

As a reminder, last year, a snippet was discovered in the iOS 14.3 beta code that reads: If you feel that your safety is under threat because of this object, contact your local law enforcement agencies. You may need the serial number for this item.

AirTag trackers are expected to be unveiled by Apple this month finally. The launch of the device has been postponed several times. Sources now claim that it will be released on March 23 or 30.
