When the headphones are in standby mode for 5 minutes, a low power mode is automatically activated to save battery power. Low power mode reduces some of the operations that drain the battery. The next mode is activated after the headphones have been inactive for 72 hours. At this point, they go into ultra-low power mode, which turns off Bluetooth and several power-consuming actions.

AirPods Max instantly goes into a low power mode with the included case. Ultra-low-power mode is activated after 18 hours in the case. In this mode, Bluetooth and Find I are disabled.
