Apple began selling refurbished M1-based MacBook Pro 13 almost immediately after their announcement

Apple has started selling “refurbished” MacBook Pro 13 with M1 chip on its official website. The difference in cost between a new and refurbished computer is at least $ 200, 9to5Mac notes.

Two configurations are available for purchase: with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal memory for $ 1099 (the same new model costs $ 1299), as well as with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal memory for $ 1269 (the new model will cost $ 1499). The difference in cost in the first and the second case is $ 200 and $ 230, respectively. Versions with gray and silver body colors are available for purchase. At the same time, refurbished MacBook Air and Mac mini on the M1 processor is not yet presented on the Apple website.

Note that officially restored Apple products are devices that were sold in the recent past. Still, later, due to the identification of buyers’ defects, they were returned under warranty. In this case, the buyer is given a completely new device for replacement, and Apple receives back the defective equipment, carries out a strict procedure for checking it, cleaning it (software and physical), followed by the replacement of the case, display, battery, and problem components. The gadget is then re-tested and shipped as refurbished. As a result, such equipment gets into a special section on the official Apple website and is sold again at a discount. The company also occasionally supplies refurbished devices to partner retail stores.

Usually, among the restored Apple equipment, past generations’ devices are sold, and the appearance of the current MacBook Pro 13 model on the Apple M1 chip in its series looks rather unusual because this laptop was presented only in November 2020. It can be assumed that due to the introduction of a new hardware platform, which was not thoroughly tested, computers are returned by customers more often than usual, which provoked such a quick appearance of refurbished devices on sale. However, there is no clear confirmation of this, and Apple itself traditionally refrains from commenting.
