Apple begins prototyping foldable iPhones

According to a leak on Weibo this week, Apple recently ordered a large number of flexible OLED panels from Samsung for foldable smartphones. These displays are reported to be different from each other and are intended to be prototyped, so even if the leak is true, it doesn’t guarantee foldable iPhones will hit store shelves anytime soon.

As you know, when preparing new products, Apple creates a lot of prototypes and studies their consumer qualities. However, many devices never make it to the finished product stage. As an example, we can recall Apple’s plans to release a high-definition TV or branded electric vehicle.

However, the fact that in the future Apple will still introduce a foldable smartphone or tablet is not in doubt. What’s more, numerous previous leaks have reported that Apple is already making prototypes of foldable iPhones. Back in June, reputable insider Jon Prosser reported that the company was working on a foldable iPhone with two separate screens, like the Microsoft Surface Duo.

Recall also that in July this year, Apple patented the design of a foldable smartphone, one of the parts of the internal display of which protrudes slightly when folded. This design is supposed to allow a small portion of the screen to remain visible at all times for displaying notifications and service information.
