Apple Silicon platforms have changed a lot
Apple recently introduced the 15-inch MacBook Air. As it turned out, the Cupertino giant had long wanted to release such a device, but could not because of Intel processors.
In a recent interview, Apple marketer Laura Metz said that the company has long wanted to release such a laptop, but technically it became possible only with the transition of the company to Apple Silicon.
Apple couldn’t release MacBook Air 15 earlier because of Intel processors
When we started, we wanted to make a 15-inch MacBook Air. But when you think about what our laptops used to look like, that just didn’t work. He just couldn’t relate to the Air line. It’s only with Apple Silicon that we’ve been able to get our hands on all the right components to make this happen: a large display, and the battery life and performance that users expect from a MacBook Air.
Unfortunately, it is not very clear why Apple had some problems with the 15-inch version, since it is easier to implement cooling in a large case than in a small one. On the other hand, if we abstract from the dimensions, of course, the level of performance that the Apple M2 SoC provides cannot be obtained on modern Intel or AMD CPUs with passive cooling in the laptop case.
We knew there were users who needed more screen real estate but didn’t want the extra features and performance of a 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro. We also know that the market for 15-inch laptops is significant – it also extends into the corporate space, where users are interested in having a larger display.
