Apple Expands Ad Business With New Ad Unit In App Store
As expected, Apple continues to expand its advertising business amid the introduction of new privacy rules for iOS apps that require developers to obtain explicit permission from users to collect data for personalized advertising. As part of this effort, Apple has added a new ad unit to the App Store, which will be another potential source of revenue.
According to reports, the new ad unit will appear on the App Store search page and appear above the list of recommended apps. Before that, developers had the opportunity to promote their products in search results for specific queries.
“ Millions of users visit the Search tab in the App Store every year to find and download applications. With ads in the search tab, you can grab the attention of these customers before they start searching, ”Apple said in a statement.
The arrival of the new ad unit marks the next step for Apple in a gradual renewal of its ad business. As part of this activity, Apple previously began serving paid advertisements in the Apple News and Stocks apps. The iPhone maker did not disclose the amount of advertising revenue. Still, experts believe that it represents a small fraction of the more than $ 50 billion generated by the company’s services. In recent years, Apple has launched several new services, such as Apple TV + and Apple Arcade, to increase revenue in this segment.
