Apple is developing a more durable version of the smartwatch with shock and scratch protection
Manufacturers of tourist equipment have long been offering smartwatches with increased protection against mechanical influences, focusing on lovers of outdoor activities and extreme tourism. According to sources, Apple will also try to grab this audience’s attention with a new version of the Watch, which is in development.
Citing traditional anonymous sources, Bloomberg reported this today. According to the primary source, the project, code-named Explorer Edition, implies creating a more secure version of the Apple Watch smartwatch, which will receive a shock and scratch-resistant case and will also be able to count on a higher class of protection when immersed in water. The current version of the Apple Watch already offers a water resistance class, conditionally corresponding to diving to a depth of 50 meters. Still, by the standards of manufacturers of special watches, this is not so much.
Apple, presumably, has chosen the famous Casio G-Shock series of watches as a benchmark for security. The case of the future Apple watch for extreme sports lovers will be covered with a special polymer that protects it from scratches. If all goes according to plan, a new version of Apple’s watch could be unveiled by the end of this year or early next year. The option of canceling the entire venture is not excluded if the goals set by the terms of reference are not achieved. By September, Apple will offer new water activity tracking features for its existing watch series anyway. According to the results of the last quarter of last year, the company controlled about 40% of the smartwatch market, the audience of their users is growing rapidly, so new modifications would not be superfluous.
