Release will not take place soon
There have been reports online that Apple is about to release a series of lower-end MacBook laptops. The Taiwanese resource DigiTimes, known for its connections with the industrial supply chain, shared the first details.
Apple is preparing a cheap MacBook that can compete with “student” Chromebooks
According to industry sources, the new MacBooks are designed to compete with low-cost Chromebooks (laptops based on Chrome OS) in the education sector. The official debut is expected in the second half of 2024.
As DigiTimes notes, the series will likely be separate from the current MacBook Air and Pro lines. The laptops will retain a metal body, but will be made from “different materials” and the cost of mechanical components will be lower.
