Apple is working on a compact desktop Mac Pro with a proprietary ARM processor

According to Bloomberg, a reputable online publication, Apple is developing a new model of the Mac Pro professional workstation. The most interesting thing is that the new computer will receive the design of the current model with the dimensions reduced by almost two times. And the highlight of the device will be Apple’s own ARM processor.

It is not yet known if the ARM version of the Mac Pro will replace the existing model, or if they will be sold in parallel. The second option looks more likely at the moment since it is hard to believe in the imminent appearance of a very powerful ARM processor that can completely replace the older Intel chips in the most powerful workstations. And Apple has promised that the transition will be smooth because users need to prepare for such large-scale changes.

Bloomberg claims that reduced power consumption will help the company reduce the size of devices equipped with proprietary chips. Nevertheless, the dimensions of the current Mac Pro are due, first of all, to the wide possibilities for upgrading and customizing the computer, for example, by adding additional video cards.

The new Mac Pro is expected to be unveiled in 2021 or more likely in 2022. Recall that, according to Apple, the transition of Mac computers to the company’s own processors will take two years. The Californian tech giant is expected to unveil updated 13- and 16-inch MacBook Pros as well as 13-inch MacBooks next week. The latter should just become the first Apple computers on a proprietary ARM processor.
