It can become an alternative to the Apple Watch

According to Patently Apple, Apple has patented a smart ring that will track heart rate, blood oxygen levels (SpO2) and measure blood pressure.

The US Patent and Trademark Office released Apple’s new filing last week, December 8th. The document describes the operation of a smart ring that can monitor the basic indicators of the owner’s condition.

The ring will be able to detect movement based on speed and strength, and recognize gestures, allowing it to be used to control content on compatible devices with screens. The gestures of scrolling, zooming, pressing and so on are mentioned.

Obviously, such a ring also simply has to be equipped with an NFC module for contactless payments. This will make it used on a regular basis, especially in cases where users did not have a smartphone or watch with them.

According to Apple’s Patently, the smart ring could be a device that will, to some extent, become an alternative to the Apple Watch. The source also added that Apple received a patent for the ECG function for the Apple Watch.
