Apple releases second public beta of iOS and iPad OS 14.2 with new features

Apple today released the second public beta of the upcoming iOS 14.2 and iPad OS 14.2 updates. Let us recall that two weeks have passed since the launch of the first public build of these operating systems. Users who are registered with Apple’s beta testing program can already download the updates to their devices.

Apple iOS 14.2 and iPad OS 14.2 add 13 new emoji to the operating system. However, the most interesting innovation is the new music recognition widget for the Control Center. Apple acquired the Shazam audio identification service two years ago. The app is now deeply integrated into the operating system and music recognition can be launched in two taps from the iOS control center. The function identifies tracks that are played both near the user and in applications. The feature is available even with AirPods connected. The music recognition function can be added to the control center through the corresponding item in the “Settings” application.

In addition, iOS 14.2 introduces a redesigned Now Playing widget that lists recently played albums. The AirPlay interface has also been updated, making it easier to play music on multiple devices simultaneously. In addition, for visually impaired users, Apple has added People Detection to see how far away other people are, which can be useful for social distancing.

Finally, operating systems have been corrected for errors from previous versions and made some cosmetic changes. For example, the Apple Watch app icon now features a watch with a brand new Solo Loop strap.
