Apple services other than iCloud will no longer work with iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS

The change will take effect on May 1

According to MacRumors, citing a verified insider, Apple services, with the exception of iCloud, will stop working on older versions of iOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS starting May 1.

Users will not be able to access any Apple services other than iCloud on devices running the following software:

iOS 11-11.2.6;
macOS 10.13-10.13.3;
watchOS 4-4.2.3;
tvOS 11-11.2.6.

Apple’s internal document states that affected users may receive a push notification prompting them to update their device to a newer version of the software.

“Certain older software versions will no longer support Apple services such as the App Store, Siri and Maps,” Apple said. “Update your software to the latest available version to continue using these services.”

Apple has not explained why most of its services will stop working with these older versions of software released between late 2017 and early 2018, but only a small percentage of users will be affected by the move. For example, as of mid-February, only 8% of actively used iPhones were running iOS 14 or later.
