Apple to release Awith OLED display no earlier than 2022, analysts say

Last month, the Korean edition of The Elec reported that Apple plans to release an iPad Pro with an OLED display in the second half of 2021. Then it was said that Samsung and LG are already in the process of developing matrices. However, according to analysts at the British bank Barclays, based on data from Apple suppliers, the iPad with an OLED display will not be released until 2022.

The date named by Barclays certainly sounds quite reasonable, since it should be borne in mind that in 2021 Apple plans to equip branded tablets with Mini LED matrixes. It would be rather strange if the company changed the type of display used in the iPad two times a year. The California-based company is already using OLED panels in its smartphones and Apple Watch.

The latest major update to the iPad Pro series, which will likely be the first to receive OLED displays, took place in 2018. Of course, a new generation of professional tablets was released this spring, but its difference from the 2018 models is mainly in an improved camera with a LiDAR sensor and a slightly updated chipset. Thus, the next update is likely to bring larger changes.

Recall that Barclays analysts were the first to announce Apple’s intentions to remove the charger and wired headphones from the iPhone. Even earlier, they noted accurate predictions regarding the implementation of the TrueTone function in the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, and also predicted that Apple would abandon the 3.5 mm headphone jack in branded smartphones.
