Apple to release iPhone with periscope camera in only two years
According to online sources, the first iPhones with a periscope camera, which will implement better optical zoom, will appear in 2023. The resource MacRumors writes about this concerning the forecast of the authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. It is noteworthy that at the end of last year, Kuo said that Apple would begin equipping its smartphones with a periscope camera as early as 2022.
At the moment, there are many smartphones on the market with a periscope camera, such as, for example, the Huawei P40 Pro, which has a 5x optical zoom. The current generation iPhone boasts only 2.5x optical and 12x digital zoom. The appearance of the periscope camera in the iPhone will allow Apple smartphones to compete with devices that already have high-quality optical zoom.

The analyst also shared his vision of what cameras will be used in iPhones in the coming years. Kuo believes the 2021 iPhone will feature a new Face ID sensor made of plastic rather than glass as it has in the past. The use of plastic lenses has become possible due to improvements in their production technology. Largan and Genius are expected to supply such lenses.
It is also expected that the older versions of the iPhone in 2021 will receive a new telephoto lens, and in 2022 there will be smartphones with a new design of the front camera, which will reduce the size of the notorious “bangs.” Kuo had previously predicted that Apple would start using displays with a punch-hole for the front camera in the 2022 iPhone. Displays with a hole should appear in older versions of the 2022 iPhones, but if the panels’ production volume is sufficient, they can be used in all devices of the generation.
