Apple unveils proprietary Apple M1 processor for Mac computers

Apple’s presentation began immediately with the main thing that many fans of the company were waiting for – Mac computers. The first product, if you can call it that, of course, was the first computer chip Apple M1. No customized Apple A14 Bionic. A-series still remains for iPhone and iPad

The Apple M1 is a 5nm System-on-a-Chip (SoC) with 16 billion transistors. It fits eight CPU cores, eight graphics cores, as well as a 16-core computational neuro block, in the way of what is in Apple’s mobile processors. The CPU part consists of two clusters: four powerful cores and four energy-efficient ones. The graphics processor includes 128 execution units, and its performance reaches 2.6 teraflops, which is quite a lot.

Compared to past processors used in Macs and MacBooks, the new Apple M1 has the highest performance per watt – twice the performance of previous desktop processors.

Also, laptops and computers running on the Apple M1 will be able to perform background tasks in sleep mode. That is, you can put a movie or game on download, close the laptop, and the download will continue anyway.

The company has also paid particular attention to hardware-based data encryption. In terms of software, developers will receive the necessary tools to create and optimize applications for both platforms – Apple and Intel. Apple’s processors will also be able to run applications and games created for the iPhone and iPad.

In the future, it is planned to transfer all computers and laptops to the proprietary platform. The first devices on the Apple M1 were the MacBook Air 2020, Mac Mini 2020, and MacBook Pro 13 Pro 2020, which we will discuss in the following articles.
