The Bloobmerg resource published a large article about how Apple works and has previously worked on projects in the healthcare sector. Among other things, journalists report that initially the company had plans to make its smartwatches compatible with Android smartphones.

The corresponding project was called Project Fennel. Apple not only thought about this option, but actively worked in this direction. However, in the end the project was closed.
Other business considerations reportedly prevailed. In particular, at some point the Apple Watch became an additional driver of iPhone sales. As a result, Project Fennel was abandoned when the work was almost completed.
