Apple will release two MacBook Pros next year with new designs, Mini-LED displays and branded processors

According to authoritative analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to release two updated MacBook Pros in 2021 and a new MacBook Air in 2022. All of them will receive Mini-LED displays and Apple-branded ARM processors.

In a policy note to investors, the analyst said the two new MacBook Pros unveiled next year will receive a completely new design. The same goes for the MacBook Air, which will be released in 2022. It is assumed that the devices will maintain the same cost, despite the use of Mini-LED-matrices. This will be achieved through the use of proprietary ARM processors, the cost of which is significantly lower than that of Intel chips.

According to new reports, shipments of devices with Mini-LED-matrixes will be much higher than previously estimated. TFI Securities expects Apple to ship 10 million to 12 million devices with Mini-LED panels in 2021. In 2022, this figure will grow to 25 or 28 million. Epistar is expected to be the sole supplier of backlights for Apple devices.

In addition, Kuo estimated that MacBook shipments would grow 100 percent over the next three years to around 35 million units per year. The analyst attributes this growth to the use of proprietary ARM chipsets and a design update scheduled for next year.
