ASUS announces price increases for graphics cards and motherboards

Unfortunately, the new year does not start with the best news for the computer industry. ASUS has announced an increase in the recommended prices for all of its computer components, including video cards and motherboards. This was announced on Facebook by the technical product manager of ASUS Juan Jose Guerrero.

The second half of 2020 proved to be very controversial for the PC industry. On the one hand, we witnessed the release of new GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards from NVIDIA and Radeon RX 6000 from AMD, as well as Ryzen 5000 processors. At the same time, the launch of these new products was marred by their acute shortage. Although the manufacturers have promised that things will change for the better in 2021, the start of the year is likely to be difficult for everyone. At least one of the leading component manufacturers has announced upcoming price increases.

In its statement, ASUS noted that the rise in prices for its components is associated with several factors. One of them is the rise in prices for components used to assemble and manufacture certain products. In addition, operating costs have risen, logistics costs have risen, and import tariffs continue to rise.

The scale of the rise in price can be judged by the changes in the official American ASUS store. For example, the ROG Strix 3090 OC graphics card began to cost $ 1980, while more recently its price was $ 1800, and the TUF 6800 XT OC got a price of $ 970 instead of $ 810. Other prices have changed on about the same scale, the updated price list for the company’s video cards is as follows:

  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3090-O24G-WHITE: $ 2109.99
  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3090-O24G-GAMING: $ 1979.99
  • RTX3090-24G-EK: $ 2014.99
  • TUF-RTX3090-O24G-GAMING: $ 1839.99
  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3080-O10G-WHITE: $ 1049.99
  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3080-O10G-GAMING: $ 929.99
  • RTX3080-10G-EK: $ 999.99
  • TUF-RTX3080-O10G-GAMING: $ 859.99
  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3070-O8G-WHITE: $ 779.99
  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3070-O8G-GAMING: $ 699.99
  • RTX3070-8G-EK: $ 729.99
  • TUF-RTX3070-O8G-GAMING: $ 649.99
  • KO-RTX3070-O8G-GAMING: $ 639.99
  • DUAL-RTX3070-O8G: $ 599.99
  • ROG-STRIX-RTX3060TI-O8G-GAMING: $ 599.99
  • TUF-RTX3060TI-O8G-GAMING: $ 529.99
  • KO-RTX3060TI-O8G-GAMING: $ 519.99
  • DUAL-RTX3060TI-O8G: $ 499.99

It should be recalled that the world is still in the midst of a protracted coronavirus pandemic. Supply and logistics problems have become a real headache for every major global manufacturer. It is very likely that other companies producing computer components will soon follow the example of ASUS. And the rise in prices for their products will be associated with the same factors reported by the Taiwanese manufacturer.

Thus, in the near future, we should expect an increase in price tags for the already meagre stocks of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series and AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics accelerators, which from the very start are sold much higher than their recommended cost. It is very likely that in the near future there will also be an increase in prices for motherboards of the current 500 series from Intel and AMD.
