Breast cancer… a life-threatening disease of the modern women and men. It has taken so many lives. According to the US Breast cancer statistics:

  • About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 12%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
  • It is estimated that  new 246,660 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. On the other hand there will be  61,000 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.
  • About 2,600 new cases of invasive breast-cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2016. A man’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000.

The reasons for developing breast cancer in women are different. However, according to a research made by a team of researchers at Kaiser Permanente, women diagnosed with breast-cancer and consumed a diet rich in full-fat dairy products, have an increased risk of dying than others.

Why is that? Dairy products sold in the United States contain an increased amount of estrogen which is the reason for the simulation of the growth of breast cells and the hormone-receptor positive breast cancer.

This is the reason why women should try and avoid full-fat dairy products and consume more low-fat ones.

Back to the research, the experts wanted to prove if consuming full-fat dairy products really increases the possibility of breast-cancer reappearance, as well as the possibility of dying from breast cancer. Here are the full-fat products the study included:

  • Whole milk, condensed or evaporated milk, pudding, ice cream, custard, flan, cheese, yogurt, butter.

This study lasted for 12 years, and it revealed that the participants who consumed one or more servings of full-fat dairy products every day had a 64% higher chance of dying from any factor and a 49% higher chance of dying from breast cancer compared to the participants who consumed low-fat dairy products or less servings of full-fat dairy product a day.

The study reveals a connection between full-fat dairy products and fatal breast-cancer outcomes, however it doesn’t prove that the one necessarily leads to the other. More tests, experiments and researches are needed in order to discover the real connection between the two.

Until more information on the subject is available, it’s advisable for every patient diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer to do everything he can to reduce the risk of reappearance and increase the possibility of survival.
