The first import-substituting robot for laying composite fiber appeared in Russia
The Irkut Corporation, which is part of UAC, and the South Russian Polytechnic University have created the first Russian robot for laying composite fiber. The import-substituting system will be used in the serial production of the “black” wing of the domestic MS-21 airliner.
At the moment, a prototype of the robot has been put into commercial operation, the next stage is its implementation in mass production.
“Black” wing for the domestic airliner MS-21 will be created by a robot
With the help of such a robot, dry carbon tape is automatically laid, which forms the future part of the aircraft in layers – a composite wing. The laid tape is “baked” using a laser – each next layer is glued to the previous one.
The UAC noted that all the main elements of the robot and software were created in Russia. According to Rostec, the robot will help to reach the rhythmic production of up to 36 MS-21 per year.
