Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K Pro Super 35 Touchscreen Camera Introduced

Blackmagic Design has unveiled the latest in its Pocket Cinema Camera family – the 6K Pro (BMPCC6KP), a Super 35mm EF mount camera with a tiltable LCD touchscreen, built-in ND filter, and more.

This is an updated version of Pocket Cinema Camera 6K in a familiar format with some Blackmagic customers’ improvements. Most importantly, BMPCC6KP has a 5-inch tiltable LCD touch screen with a 1920 × 1080 pixels resolution and a brightness of 1500 cd / m 2.

Another enhancement is the built-in ND filter with variable light blocking (2, 4, and 6 stops). To extend battery life over its predecessor, which used Canon LP-E6 batteries, Pocket Cinema 6K Pro is powered by Sony NP-F570 rechargeable batteries, widely used in the video industry to power all kinds of cameras, lights, and accessories.

Blackmagic Design reports that the camera uses its 5th generation color processing technology, which was first seen in the Blackmagic Design URSA Mini Pro 12K camera. The company added that older Pocket Cinema 4K and 6K owners would also receive this technology through a firmware update over the next few months. Other features include UHS-II and CFast 2.0 SD card slots, USB-C recording capability, and a pair of mini XLR audio inputs (4K and 6K only had one).

For those looking for something more than a tilting LCD, Blackmagic Design has also created a new external OLED digital viewfinder that can be mounted on top of the camera. It comes with four interchangeable eyepieces for individual needs. Also new is the Pro Grip, which holds two NP-570 batteries instead of one.

The rest of the characteristics are generally the same. The camera offers a Super 35 sensor (23.1 x 12.99 mm); the ability to record in 12-bit Blackmagic RAW format at a resolution of 6144 × 3456 (6K) and 50 fps; ISO range 400–3200; 13 stops of dynamic range; support for autofocus on compatible lenses.

The Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro is available for purchase for $ 2,495. The external viewfinder and Pro Grip will retail for $ 495 and $ 145, but exact launch times have yet to be announced.
