Bloodborne and Hollow Knight Inspired Dark Metroidvania Crowsworn Gets Debut Trailer
Independent British-Canadian studio Mongoose Rodeo has unveiled the debut trailer for its first project, the dark 2D action platformer Crowsworn with Metroidvania elements.
The aforementioned video lasts less than a minute. It demonstrates a cut of the gameplay, including both relatively peaceful episodes exploring locations and battles with ordinary enemies and bosses.
The developers do not hide the sources of inspiration for Crowsworn: when creating their action-platformer, Mongoose Rodeo focused on Devil May Cry, Bloodborne, and Hollow Knight.
The latter’s legacy in Crowsworn is felt especially clearly: the visual style (not the entourage) and the platform component seem to be directly borrowed from the creation of Team Cherry.
The opinions of the players on this matter are divided: in the comments on YouTube, there are mainly approving reviews, while users of Reddit call Crowsworn “more a fake than a tribute. “
“Let’s be clear … amazed at your involvement and not in the least upset with what some of you think of [Crowsworn]. We are grateful for your interest “ – shared in Mongoose Rodeo.
Crowsworn does not yet have a deadline (let alone a release date) or a list of target platforms, but soon a fundraising campaign will begin on Kickstarter to develop the game.
Crowsworn is currently in development and does not have a release date yet. However, it has already been funded on Kickstarter and has a large and passionate fanbase. I am excited to see how the game turns out and I think it has the potential to be a great Metroidvania.
