BYD Yangwang U8 shown live

Pre-orders start in April

On April 10, at a technology conference, BYD finally unveiled the new Yangwang U8, which is positioned as an all-electric luxury SUV with a frame structure, live. The car will be available to visitors at the Shanghai Motor Show this month, when pre-orders will begin to be accepted.

At the conference, BYD announced the adaptive suspension and new intelligent vehicle body control system technology, another in-house development after the DM Super Hybrid system, e-Platform 3.0, Blade battery and other solutions. Such a suspension will be used in the Yangwang U8, the YangWang U9 supercar that jumped at the presentation , as well as the new BYD Han and BYD Tang models.

The exterior of the car was designed by Wolfgang Josef Eiger, chief designer at BYD. He revealed that he used the Gates of Time and Space design language, which combines futuristic elements with a hardcore style. In particular, the matrix grid is inspired by the Kuiper belt at the edge of the solar system.

The body length of the new BYD electric SUV is 5300 mm, and the wheelbase is 3050 mm. It has a flat, flat roof and hidden door handles, as well as 20- or 22-inch wheels.

The car received a lot of sensors, lidar, cameras that are used for driving assistance, and modern LED lighting. The LED strips on the C-pillar can display the charge level.

The power plant Yangwang U8 includes four engines, each of them is mounted on a separate wheel. The power of one engine is up to 326 hp, and the maximum torque is 420 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h is 3 seconds. The wheels allow the car to turn 360 degrees in one place. This technology allows you to maintain control of the car in the event of damage to one wheel. The Yangwang U8 driver will have access to various driving modes, including ice and snow, sand, a flat tire to continue driving at speeds up to 120 km/h, turn on the spot and swimming mode. According to the developers, the new electronically controlled all-wheel drive system responds 100 times faster than the traditional one.
