Call of Duty: Modern Warfare authors accused of copying the image of Mary

Writer and photographer Clayton Haugen have filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard and Infinity Ward. The plaintiff accuses the creators of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare of copying the heroine’s image, invented by him for Cade Janus from the film November Renaissance.

For the role of Janus, model Alex Zedra was invited, who later took part in the creation of the image of Mara from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Moreover, the developers brought in the same makeup artist. It mimicked Cade’s appearance in many ways, albeit unintentionally, but on the recommendation of Infinity Ward representatives.

The plaintiff also stated that the developers used not only images of the heroine but also similar clothes. As confirmation, Haugen has attached several photographs:

It is not known whether the court will take into account the similarity of both images since creating a character with the participation of the same model is not in itself a violation. Military clothing and equipment are standard in many films and games.

It is worth noting that in January, the indie studio NOWWA made a similar accusation against Respawn Entertainment. The developers claim that the character Fuze from Apex Legends is based on the Hunter from their BulletVille project.
