Caffeine is a natural alkaloid, which is found in plants such as coffee, tea, cocoa, guarana, and in the drinks obtained from them. It is also named with its synonyms, namely mateine and guaranine. Beverages containing caffeine have a stimulating effect thanks to the substance which is psychoactive and is the most widespread and most consumed in the world, being used for both medical and recreational purposes.

Many women are fond of caffeine, a stimulus that helps beat the fatigue of the day and stay active and productive. But what happens when you get pregnant? Can you drink caffeine during pregnancy?

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is calling for more research to be done on this question before a clear-cut answer can be given. Indeed, it would seem that there is a link between miscarriage and caffeine intake. Studies have shown that it could cross the placenta and thus affect the baby.

Furthermore, some studies, unlike others, have found a close relationship between a woman’s ability to conceive and the consumption of caffeine. But many experts also, in this case, say that there are not enough elements to be able to reach a fair and unequivocal conclusion. So what to do? Here is the answer.

There are undeniable potential risks that you could run into if you take caffeine during pregnancy. For this reason, doctors recommend a very limited use, if you really can’t do without it. In this regard, the Mayo Clinic feels it advises women to consume less than 200 milligrams per day .

Obviously, we must take into account not only the caffeine associated with coffee, but also that present in other foods , such as in soft drinks, chocolate or tea. Caffeine may also be present in some over-the-counter medications and herbal products .
