The new product will appear in 2025
Chrysler CEO Christine Fewell confirmed the brand’s intention to release its first electric vehicle based on the STLA platform by 2025. She said the two-row all-electric crossover would mark the beginning of a revival for the brand. Fewell added that the future model will be based on the Airflow concept unveiled in 2022. But there will be differences between the future model and the concept, which I will talk about later.
While the design elements hinted at by the Airflow concept weren’t completely jettisoned, the CEO tasked Stellantis chief designer Ralph Gilles with creating a distinctive and eye-catching Chrysler vehicle.
It was previously reported that the Airflow will receive a four-seater cabin with separate seats and proprietary STLA SmartCockpit architecture, which involves separate screens with webcams for each passenger. There will be six screens in total, including four on the front panel.
Earlier this year, Gilles said that the design concepts presented in the Airflow “will evolve as the production model is developed.” He called the initial concept “just the beginning of the story” and said in May that initial feedback on the upcoming model had been overwhelmingly positive.
Chrysler Airflow with six screens will become serial. A completely new sedan is also on the way
Although the upcoming car will take inspiration from the Airflow, it is unlikely to carry the same name. Earlier this year, the CEO mentioned that the company was exploring several titles, some rooted in the brand’s historical lineup and others completely fresh.
Stellantis expects the platform to allow a range of up to 644 km on a single charge, while supporting 800-volt fast charging.
Fewell also provided some information about the rest of the lineup. She mentioned that the automaker is considering adding an all-new sedan to its lineup. Additionally, she noted that the brand intends to continue offering the Pacifica minivan with a hybrid powertrain “throughout the end of the decade.”
