Comparison of the remake of Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time and the original: there is a difference, but it is not enough

On yesterday’s Ubisoft Forward Livestream, Ubisoft announced a remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Demonstrated reissue, judging by the ratio of likes/dislikes to trailers on YouTube, was not liked by many users. Meanwhile, the author of the YouTube channel Ultimate Gamerz compared the updated project and the original. He showed that the difference between the games is huge, but that it is still not enough for a project due in 2021.

The blogger compared the trailers of the reissue of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the original game. The videos contain many similar shots, although in places they differ in direction. The comparison shows that the remake has indeed completely redesigned the visual component. Ubisoft has implemented new scenery, effects, models of the main and secondary characters, animated them, and changed the lighting.

When compared to the original, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time shows progress. But if we evaluate the schedule of the re-release in isolation from the 2003 project, by the standards of 2020, then it does not stand up to criticism. For example, not all objects cast shadows, the resolution of some textures is low, and the visual effects are reminiscent of the PS3 and Xbox 360 era.

The remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will be released on January 21, 2021, on PC (Uplay, Epic Games Store), PS4, and Xbox One. Game pre-orders are open on all platforms.
